The saga is finally over, Jack Eichel has been traded to the Vegas Golden Knights: A Breakdown11/4/2021 It's finally over, it's finally over. It's been drawn out for at least 6-8 months. I went to bed last night fairly early, hoping and praying the rumors would come true....that the Flames were sending Matthew Tkachuk, a future 1st round pick, a former 1st round pick and two prospects to the Sabres in exchange for Jack Eichel. I woke up to a text saying the Sabres and Flames trade wasn't happening, went back to sleep accepting the same old bullshit with no movement happening. I got to work in the early morning hours, sat at my desk and settled in for another shit day. Then my phone went off, my brother Mike who lives in Buffalo confirms the Buffalo Sabres have traded Jack Eichel to the Vegas Golden Knights, as I awaited to get confirmation from anywhere on the internet I sat and wondered, what could we have gotten in return from Vegas? Then it came in, the Buffalo Sabres received forward Alex Tuch, center prospect Peyton Krebs, a 2021 top 10 protected first round pick and a 2022 third round pick. To my surprise I wasn't all that mad about the assets we acquired in return for the former captain.
This needed to happen, Jack didn't want to be in Buffalo and the Sabres didn't want him there anymore. Rumors have been circulating for a time now but I didn't want to believe it, with the recent interviews Eichel has given and how he has acted today after the trade? It's tough not to think they're rumors anymore and they may be true. It's been said Eichel chased Ryan O'Reilly out of town, he was a clicky locker room guy, he would talk to some teammates and then not talk to others, his demeanor was awful and to be honest he wasn't a good captain. I apologize Sabres fans I have stuck up for this guy for too long but his little social media tour today acting like he was an ISIS hostage was borderline pathetic. One of his interviews he made it sound like he was a good guy to ask for a trade so the team could get "valuable assets for him" the dude seems like a genuine prick and I don't care that he's gone. Alex Tuch is a lifelong Sabres fan and he stated today that it's always been his dream to put on the Sabres jersey. Peyton Krebs, who is this Knights top prospect, seemed to be the key factor in why this trade didn't get done over the summer. The Knights didn't want to give up their number one prospect but kudos to Kevyn Adams on never caving on his request for Krebs. Tuch is out with an injury and it doesn't look like he'll be back until at least the end of the year or at the earliest the end of the month. Krebs, who played 7 games for Vegas this year hasn't registered a point and will begin his time with Buffalo in Rochester. To me this trade was a win for the Sabres, yes Eichel is an elite talent but this had to get done and Kevyn Adams did a very good job making this move. I give Adams a B+ on this trade, I've always really liked Tuch and I think Krebs just adds to our tremendous pipeline of prospects we have already. Listen I know right now the present isn't very great for the Sabres but the future is really bright. Right now Jack Quinn is the 2nd leading scorer in the AHL, JJ Peterka is playing really well on a line with Quinn and that's just in the AHL. Erik Portillo is killing it in net for the University of Michigan, Devon Levi has 3 shutouts at Northeastern University, Owen Power was the number one pick in the last draft and he's killing it at Michigan, the list goes on and on. I for one am pretty excited to see what this team can do in the next 2-3 years, I fully think they have the right coach to do it too.
