The Tailgate

From the casual and uneducated football fan who watches maybe half of the regular season but doesn't miss the playoffs, this past superbowl actually disappointed me. Both teams were fine, Mahomes is a highlight machine (even on bad plays). Tom Brady did Tom Brady things, he is a cheat code in many ways. He has officially solidified himself as the best franchise in football. Wherever he goes he wins, easily the greatest of all time purely on numbers alone. Gronk was easily the most noticeable receiver the Bucs had, and after coming out of retirement he has also become the greatest receiving tight end in modern football history. The refereeing in the game is why I am disappointed. Two of those pass interference calls were total trash. The one on the left sideline was total trash, a complete dive, and the one on the right sideline was an uncatchable ball. These calls perpetuated the idea that Tom Brady has the refs in his pockets. And honestly after seeing a 40 plus year old quarterback win a superbowl it's hard to debate that. But the Cheifs has several miss opportunities and dropped passes. It was hard to watch a ball bounce off of Tyreek Hill’s helmet and Travis Kelce’s hands. Easily catchable passes for players of their caliber. The second half adjustments were non-existent and the defense had a hard time defending the run. The bucs were punching it up the middle early in the 4th quarter. Once they slightly plugged the middle Tom Brady just dumped the ball out and they just never recovered. But Cheifs fans should be most disappointed in the offensive line. Mahomes was being eaten alive every play. Mahomes scrambled for over 400 yards and a majority of that was behind the line of scrimmage. Overall the Cheifs were a disappointment, the refs are possibly in Brady’s pocket and let's cancel the halftime show (just my opinion). The NFL has a long way to go to make the league a more watchable product. When a player is so dominant that he can lead any team to the superbowl it makes the games mostly unwatchable.
