Let me start by sayin, I hate the Rangers.....when I say hate.....like I effin hate this team, from their lame ass goal song, their shit head fans, I just hate all of it. But this guy? Hank? The King? Whatever you want to call him, I'll let you in on a little secret.....over the past 10 years, he's probably been my favorite player in the NHL. What this guy did for the Rangers on the ice was just unmatched. He carried so many talent challenged Rangers teams on deep playoff runs. Let's be honest the when they made the Stanley Cup finals back in 2014, that was all because of King Henrik. Lundqvist was an amazing ambassador for the game, whether it be with his on ice play, how he carried himself off the ice or the work he did in the community. The King always played a huge role in the MSG foundation "Garden of Dreams". Hank always had time for the fans, most guys in his situations couldn't give a shit about the fans but not Hank. Go to youtube, you can find countless videos of Lundqvist doing make-a-wish, garden of dreams, anything you name it. Can we also talk about how good looking he was? It's genuinely not even fair, when he would take that helmet off and whip his hair around? Good lord the women in the stands must have been in puddles after watching that and hell dudes pants probably got a little bit shorter too. Guy was a complete man rocket in a suit, his chiseled jaw line, probably got a bulge you can see from the top of the empire state building, I already mentioned the hair, the facial stubble, like Jesus Christ I'm sweating just talking about it.
For the last 15 years Lundqvist was a consistent presence in net for the Blueshirts. Growing up a Sabres fan I saw what great goaltending could do for a team and I equate what Hank did to what Hasek did in Buffalo. Yes, the Rangers most certainly had more talented teams than most of Hasek's Sabres teams but he was the backbone of that organization. In his 15 years he was a 5x Vezina finalist, a 5x all-star, won the Vezina in 2012 and an Olympic gold medalist with Sweden in 2006. He reached 400 wins faster than any goalie ever. He hold over 50 Rangers records, including wins, appearances by a goaltender, shutouts, playoff appearances and playoff wins. I could honestly talk about this guy all god damn day to be blatantly honest. The Rangers have already announced they will retire the kings #30 to the rafters of MSG this year, rightfully so and going on to state "Henrik is, and will always be, a Ranger". The only sad part of this story was his reasoning for retiring was his heart. Again I cannot say it enough, he may not just be one of the best goalies of our generation but he may be one of the best people to put on the pads. Lastly Henrik stated "Lastly, Thank you to the game of hockey and its fans! You gave my life a purpose and I have loved every single minute of it!" A true and genuine Thank You to the King for doing everything on and off the Ice.....the right way.
