Last night Ciryl Gane took on Jairzinho Rozenstruik in a what was supposed to be a heavyweight main event loaded with fireworks, if you were a casual MMA fan you most certainly were not impressed. Now i consider myself to be a little bit more than a casual fan and even for me it was just not an impressive fight for either men. Gane did exactly what he needed to do to win the fight, nothing more. Rozenstruik clearly lost every round and showed absolutely no urgency to come forward and try to finish Gane in the later rounds. Gan got the unanimous decision win, but it most certainly will not get him the next crack at the heavyweight title. After Derrick Lewis finished Curtis Blaydes in spectacular fashion last weekend, you would have thought these guys figured they needed to do the same but clearly they had different strategies. Jon Jones seems to be the likely guy to get the winner of the Miocic vs Ngannou fight on march 27th. What does the UFC do from here? I think you have three guys to consider a for a title shot after Jon Jones, in my opinion those guys are Derrick Lewis, Alexander Volkov and Cyril Gane. Maybe we end up seeing Lewis get that fight with Allistair Overeem that he called for last weekend and you see Volkov take on Gane in another fight. Now, the real show stealer of the night was the bantamweight battle between Jimmie Rivera and Pedro Munhoz. These two guys were throwing heavy hands, each were really looking for the finish throughout the three round war. Munhoz just beat down Rivera's lead leg with calf kicks and by the end of the fight Rivera could barely stand on it. Rivera showed the heart of a lion though, not backing down and continuing to throw big strikes trying to finish Munhoz. Munhoz won via unanimous decision. Big win for Munhoz in an absolutely stacked UFC bantamweight division.
