Welp, It happened, the rest of the world has caught up to America when it comes to the UFC. By no means do I hate that because some of these champs could go down in history as the greatest of all time. But out of the eleven UFC titles just two are American and one of those two is Aljamain Sterling, the bantamweight champ who won the belt on an illegal knee. The other is Thug Rose Namajunas who is an absolute beast at strawweight. I thought it'd be interesting to take a look at the other eight title holders and see who/if there is any American that could take a belt off of one of these guys or gals. LET'S TAKE A LOOK
HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP(206-265LBS)- Francis Ngannou(Cameroon) Francis is a fuckin animal, legit one of the scariest dudes I have ever seen in the octagon. When he knocks guys out, I'll be honest sometimes I think he kill the guy. He won the title back in March with a violent KO of what some consider to be the greatest heavyweight of all-time, Stipe Miocic. Now shit, I'm not even sure who can beat Francis at all at Heavyweight, let alone the US but I'll give it my best guess. MY AMERICAN CHOICE- Stipe Miocic, the former champ has beaten Ngannou before....in pretty dominate fashion too. Miocic has the record for most title defense at Heavyweight and given the right game plan and if he can stick to it I firmly believe he can beat Ngannou again. LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP(205LBS)- Jan Blachowicz(Poland) The Polish Hammer! I fuckin love this guy, legit came out of nowhere then when DC retired and Jon Jones did....whatever the fuck he's doing Jan came in to win the title over Dominick Reyes back in September of 2020. Jan has defended the title one time, handing middleweight Champ Israel Adesanya his first and only loss of his career. Jan has look so good in the last few years and it sure as shit is going to be a difficult task to dethrone him because he is just so good everywhere. MY AMERICAN CHOICE- Anthony Smith, Honestly he was really my only choice here. I wanted to say Dominick Reyes but with 3 straight losses it's gonna be awhile before he gets another crack at the title. MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION(185LBS)- Israel Adesanya(Nigeria) Israel is literally one of the best middleweights I've seen, the dude literally has everything you want in promoting a fighter. After taking the belt off Robert Whitaker at UFC 243, he's defended it 3 times(Romero,Costa,Vetorri) and not a single one of those fights were really that close at all. He's funny, charismatic and an absolute killer in the octagon. MY AMERICAN CHOICE- Jared Cannonier, honestly? I don't know if there is any American right now at middleweight that could even get a title shot but I think with out a doubt Cannonier is the closest. WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION(170LBS)- Kamaru Usman(Nigeria) This fuckin guy.....this fuckin guy right here? Sorry GSP but the Nigerian Nightmare is the greatest UFC welterweight of all time. Now the fact that Usman has improved his striking so much? He's the most dangerous guy in the UFC in my opinion. Usman can literally beat you anywhere, he'll grind out a win by wrestling the fuck out of you or he'll knock you the fuck out. I used to not be the biggest fan of Usman but god damn is this guy fuckin good. MY AMERICAN CHOICE- Colby Covington Colby is the only choice here, Dana White has already sad Covington is next. They fought once and in that fight Kamaru broke Covington's jaw but it was an absolute war. These guys stood and threw absolute bombs for nearly 5 rounds and I cannot wait to see this re-match. LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION(155LBS)- Charles Oliveira(Brazil) Oliveira shocked the world with a TKO win over Michael Chandler at UFC 262 to win the title that was vacated by Khabib after his retirement. I say shocked, mainly due to the fact so many people forgot how good Oliveira really is. He's a dog, great BJJ, good on the feet just an overall likable dude. I didn't hate that he won and I thought it was a really feel good moment to see him finally get his shot and capitalize on it. MY AMERICAN CHOICE- Justin Gaethje, this was one of the harder ones to pick. I thought about Dustin Poirier, I thought about Michael Chandler. But Dustin still has to fight Conor and if he loses Conor will most definitely get the next crack. Chandler just lost to Oliveira so he's gonna have to win a fight or two to get back at the belt. Gaethje hasn't fought since his loss to Khabib and I'd love to see him get the next shot but if Dustin beats Conor again he'll be the one to fight Oliveira. MENS FEATHERWEIGHT- Alexander Volkanovski(Austailia) I've been a huge fan of Volkanovski since he got into the UFC. Alexander the Great took the title from all-time great Max Holloway, then defended it again against Holloway. He's been getting ungodly amounts of hate from people saying he isn't the real champ because of how close both fights with Max were. I personally thought he clearly won the first but I thought Max won the re-match. But the fact is he won both fights, he's the champ and he deserves it. MY AMERICAN CHOICE- Max Holloway Yeah ok, I know Brian Ortega is American and he has the next fight v's Alex but I don't think he is gonna win. Unlike everyone else I'm not gonna get all hard because Ortega has won one single fight since Max literally beat the fuck out of him and outclassed him. I think Alex wins and Max gets the third fight and finally avenges his loss. FLYWEIGHT CHAMPION(125LBS)-Brandon Moreno(Mexico) Now I already wrote a blog about Moreno and how he just won the belt last Saturday. The dude was cut from the UFC, came back and beat the unbeatable. He's a great human being and fuck is he a dangerous human being. Moreno could hold this belt for a long time. MY AMERICAN CHOICE- Alex Perez I like Alex a lot and again he's really my only choice here as far as American contenders at this weight goes, but when will he be able to get a crack at the belt again? It might be a long time, he's gonna have to be real impressive to surpass some guys ahead of him. WOMEN'S FLYWEIGHT CHAMPION(125)- Valentina Shevchenko(Kyrgzstan) The Bullet, she is one of two one of the scariest women in MMA today. This girl terrifies me the way she finishes her fights, If you don't know about her go look up her KO against Jessica Eye......kick to the head sounded like a fuckin baseball bat. She is so dominant that it's tough to pick any one to beat her.....but I thinkkkkk I may have a wild card that we haven't heard from in quite awhile. MY AMERICAN CHOICE- Tatiana Suarez She last fought back in 2019, she's battled some a TON of injuries but she seems to be on the right track and hopefully can return soon. She's undefeated, she's a former TUF winner and she was the #1 ranked female wrestler in the US. Shevchenko is good on the ground but I don't think she's seen wrestling like Suarez possesses. Tatiana reminds me of the female version of Khabib and in no way will that be an easy task to stop for Valentina. WOMENS BANTAMWEIGHT/FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION(145/135LBS)- Amanda Nunes(Brazil) Don't even try to argue with me, Amanda Nunes is the greatest female MMA fighter of all time. She has beaten the who's who in women's MMA and she's on a twelve fight win streak and she has been terrorizing the women's MMA scene in the UFC for about 6 years now. Her reign of terror is going to end when the Lioness wants it to end. She's honestly one of the fighter I'm always gonna tune in to watch, she is must watch tv. She's married to UFC fighter Nina Ansaroff, they have a kid together, she's a great human, super nice to the media and just an absolute sweetheart. We thought Rousey was dominate? Rousey was the best of a bad situation, she wouldn't even be in the top 15 with the girls they got today. Also Rousey was a complete asshole, Nunes is so good and so marketable for the UFC. AMERICAN CHOICE(FEATHERWEIGHT)- Kayla Harrison Right now Harrison fights for the PFL who fights at 155LBS. She's a two time Olympic gold medalist in judo, she's 9-0 in MMA. Harrison and Nunes are teammates, but after this PFL season Harrison will be a FREE AGENT and most certainly look for a new challenge, it's tough for me to think the UFC won't be looking for more competition for Nunes in the future and for me Harrison is the only one that has any kind of shot to beat Nunes whether it be American or not. AMERICAN CHOICE(BANTAMWEIGHT)- NOT A SINGLE SOUL Honestly? There isn't one single girl at this weight I can see touching Nunes, from any country in the world.
