With Summerslam coming up next weekend, I got to thinking.....what are some good moments from Summerslam past? To be honest, for me Summerslam was actually always my least favorite of the four main PPV's. Obviously Mania is mania, The Royal Rumble is always a favorite and Survivor Series used to be awesome now it sort of sucks with the whole Raw v's Smackdown thing every year. But Summerslam has provided some awesome matches, maybe not like some of the other events in the past but there was still some bangers. Let's take a look at my Top 10 Summerslam matches of all-time........ 10) CM Punk v's Brock Lesnar, Summerslam 2013: I saw someone recently reference this match and I went back and watched it, mainly because I don't remember it being such a good match. It was 20 minutes plus, Lesnar had moments of pure dominance then Punk came back with epic moments of resilience. You had the story of Punk vs Heyman which showed through out the entire match. Maybe one of Punk's best matches but in my opinion? Easily Brock's best match ever. Of course it ended in Lesnar winning but it was an incredible match, I mean when do you see Brock go that long for that pace? 9) Triple H v's Shawn Michaels, Summerslam 2002: This was just a tremendous build up for a match. Michaels was coming back after a four year absence from the ring due to a terrible back injury. It started when Michaels came back from injury, got hit by a car then it was revealed that it was Triple H who ran Michaels over with the car. Triple H turned his back on Michaels before revealing he used HBK to get to the top of WWE. General Manager Eric Bischoff would not officially sanction the match which then turned into an unsanctioned street match. It was a 30 minute war which showed Triple H was at the top of his game and Shawn Michaels hadn't lost a step in the ring, Michaels was victorious after it was all said and done, but this was perfectly done with the lead up and the match itself. 8)Edge v's The Undertaker, Summerslam 2008 Obviously this match was gonna be awesome from the beginning. This was "Edge's wife" Vickie's retaliation for cheating on her(horrid storyline). Edge had some of his best promo work leading up to this match, he went insane and beat the fuck out of anyone he could to show Taker he was ready for the match. These dudes went back and forth during this whole match, both showed they were the top dogs in WWE, it ended with Taker giving Edge and con-chairto then the Tombstone for the win. But it didn't end there, as Taker walked to the back he saw Edge moving and came back to the ring and delivered a chokeslam to Edge that sent him straight through the ring. 7) The Rock v's Triple H, Summerslam 1998: This is probably the first great match of either or these guys careers. A ladder match between two legends of wrestling, for the IC title. This was a pretty hard hitting match and these dudes were really bruising each other. Triple H with DX and The Rock with the Nation of Domination. Triple H prevailed and walked away with the IC strap after Chyna hit The Rock in the pills knocking him off the ladder and letting Triple H grab the hanging belt. 6) Daniel Bryan v's John Cena, Summerslam 2013: This was definitely something the WWE universe was looking forward too. Everyone was a Daniel Bryan guy at this point and it was that time period where everyone and their mother hated John Cena. So when Cena hand picked Bryan as his opponent for Summerslam, everyone thought this was finally Bryan's moment. Now, He did win the title buttttt Triple H was the special referee and pedigreed Bryan after he won so Randy Orton could cash in his MITB briefcase to win the title from Bryan. 5) Stone Cold v's Kurt Angle, Summerslam 2001: This was the height of the invasion angle, everyone was shocked that Stone Cold had chosen to turn his back on the WWE and join the Alliance. This match was awesome, false finish after false finish and the crowd was fucking electric. This match was so awesome, but the ending was so bad I don't even wanna talk about it 4) The British Bulldog v's Bret Hart, Summerslam 1992: Now listen, I've been on record saying that I was never a Bret Hart fan but without a doubt he carried this match to greatness. Bulldog was never the most technical in ring performer but Bret made this match what it was. Family v's Family it was built as, the Bulldog prevailed and won the IC title in his home country of England and the crowd was absolutely buzzzzzing. 3) Shawn Michaels v's Razor Ramon, Summerslam 1995: This was sort of gets lost a bit on how great this truly was. I get that maybe some people thing it wasn't as good as the Mania ladder match that these two had, but god damn this match was awesome. It was just as good as the Mania match. Hard hitting match but this time Shawn walks away with the IC strap. 2) The Dudley's v's The Hardyz v's Edge and Christian, Summerslam 2000: I mean, do I even have to explain why this match is on here? They did it 3 times and every one of these TLC matches were just incredible. Edge and Christian retained their titles in a fucking insane match. I haven't watched it in awhile but I know Jeff Hardy probably did some crazy shit off a ladder. 1) Owen Hart v's Bret Hart, Summerslam 1994: I mean, god damn was this just an old school technical wrestling match. Owen is better than Bret, you cannot change my mind and I will take that opinion to the grave with me. Both guys used the cage perfectly to batter their opponent and it wasn't that shitty chain link fence one they use know, it was that thick hard blue metal cage from back when. This one was for the WWF title and Bret unfortunately won by sneaking out of the cage like that rat that he is. Owen should have one the title at some point while the two brother went at it but they just never pulled the trigger on it. This match definitely showed Owen was one of the best wrestler in the WWF at the time and like I said, I firmly think he was better than Bret, he was just as technical, way more athletic and far better on the mic.
