Rookie Report: Week 1 of the pre-season is over, which rookie shined and who disappointed?8/15/2021 NFL football is back and thank god, there's been a kind of "blah" feeling with sports lately and I'm a Mets fans so watching them collapse again gets kind of old. There's a ton of fans out there hoping that their draft pick shows out and makes their team into a contender. Week 1 of pre-season is over and some rookies showed out and some disappointed. Let's take a look at what rookies put on a show and what ones were kind of a dud..... TOP 10 Picks from the 2021 NFL Draft: 1) Jacksonville Jaguars, QB Trevor Lawrence: Lawrence went 6 of 9 passing for 71 yards in two series against the Browns while being sacked twice. He had an absolute 31 yard dime to Marvin Jones on the last play of the 1st quarter. Seemed mildly nervous, had a little bit of happy feet but they'll go away, with time. 2) New York Jets, QB Zach Wilson Zach Wilson went 6 of 9 for 63 yards. Gonna be honest, dude looked pretty solid and fairly calm in the pocket as well as rolling out of the pocket. He might be the real deal but, he does play for the Jets and it is just the first week of the pre-season 3) San Francisco 49ers, QB Trey Lance Lance's 2nd pass of the game was an 80 yard beauty to Trent Sherfield for a TD, outside of that? It was kind of an underwhelming performance by Lance. He did play against KC's first string defense and the Niners wideouts did drop a a feq balls, but it seemed like he was trying to hard to make plays too. I think he'll be alright, dude has a rocket arm and all the measurables to be a good NFL QB. 4) Atlanta Falcons, TE Kyle Pitts Pitts did not play in Atlanta's first game against the Titans 5) Cincinnati Bengals, WR Ja'Marr Chase Chase had just 1 reception for 16 yards coming off a bubble screen. I'm aware it's just one catch but he should athleticism and speed, plus Joe Burrow didn't play. 6) Miami Dolphins, WR Jaylen Waddle Waddle had zero receptions but had a 24 yard punt return. I'm aware it's strange to get excited over a punt return but Waddle showed he could be a dynamic playmaker. 7) Detroit Lions, OT Penei Sewell On the first play of the game fellow rookie Gregory Rousseau knocked Penei off balance and beat him on the edge to get to Goff. Rousseau really gave Sewell hell, just using his long arms to beat Penei for a bit. But most of the o-line looked abysmal v's the Bills front 4. 8) Carolina Panthers, CB Jaycee Horn Not really much to report, he didn't make any glaring errors and for a Carolina secondary that's been nothing short of terrible, I'll take it. 9)Denver Broncos, CB Patrick Surtain II Surtain looked good, making a great jump on a pass from Minnesota's Jake Browning to pick it off and take it too the house, I think Surtain could have and should have went earlier in the top 10. 10) Philadelphia Eagles, WR DeVonta Smith Smith did not play in the Eagles game v's Pittsburgh due to an MCL Sprain. THE BEST OF THE REST: Chicago Bears, QB Justin Fields Fields looked goooood. Fields went 14 of 20 for 142 yards and 1 touchdown. He also added 5 carries for 33 yards including a 9 yard TD run. New England Patriots, RB Rhamondre Stevenson Just Bill doing Bill shit, Stevenson had a real impressive debut for the Pats. Stevenson had 127 yards on just 10 carries including a big 91 yard Touchdown run. Stevenson, a 4th round pick out of Oklahoma could see a lot of the field in a very shallow Patriot backfield. Arizona Cardinals, WR Rondale Moore Moore didn't have a touchdown but had 3 catches for 23 yards for Arizona and the Cardinals could be a very sneaky team in the NFC West. Carolina Panthers, WR Terrace Marshall JR, TE Tommy Tremble and RB Chubba Hubbard Marshall had 3 receptions for 88 yards including a 60 yard catch and run. As a Notre Dame fan i had to give Tremble some love, he had 3 catches for 19 yards and touchdown. Hubbard, who could be a good 1-2 punch with Run CMC added 7 carries for 80 yards.' NOT THE BEST 1ST IMPRESSION: Tampa Bay Buccaneers, QB Kyle Trask First off, I never thought Trask was a good QB even when he was at Florida. Trask went 4 of 15 for just 35 yards while being sacked 5 times. Trask did have a couple deep balls that were dropped by Bucs wideouts, which may have made him go from not good to good for a first impression. Minnesota Vikings, QB Kellen Mond Mond seemed kind of shaky in his first real NFL action. He completed just 6 out of 16 passes for just 53 yards. Pittsburgh Steelers, RB Najee Harris Harris just could not get any openings in space to make break any big runs. Najee had just 22 yards on 7 carries and just didn't seem incredibly comfortable.
