It's been over 4 years since the New York Rangers have had a captain. I mean hell, they've traded their last two captains....to the same team. Who the fuck knows though, maybe they don't need a captain because right now they're one of the best teams in the NHL. But I mean c'mon.....for Christ sake they named 6 alternate captains.....yeah.....6. Artemi Panarin was named one of the six alternate captains, he's already came out and said he doesn't want to be the captain so he's out. Barclay Goodrow, who came over in a trade from Tampa was named another alternate captain but the guy has been there less than a year, so he's out. Now we're down to the final 4......let's take a look...
Option #1 Chris Kreider Kreider has been on a completely different level this year. Kreider has 47 points (33G 14A) in 48 games and is one of the NHL's top goal scorers. This is Kreider's 11th year with the Rangers and he just seems to keep getting better and on ice he looks like he's really embraced a leadership role for the original 6 franchise. Option #2 Mika Zibanejed Mika, Mika Mika, I'm not sure why but I've always been a big Mika guy and have always said when he's on? He's a top 10 player in the NHL. He's another guy who seems to have really embraced the leadership role on the ice for the Rangers. Zibanejed came to the Rangers in the 16-17 season after they absolutely fleeced the Senators by sending Derek Brassard and a 7th round pick in exchange for at the the time, the 23 year old Swede. Mika woukd be a phenomenal choice for the C. Option #3 Jacob Trouba No, I don't know....I just don't see it....so....No Option 4 Ryan Strome Strome is 28 and been with the Blueshirts for 4 years not and it's easily been his best run in the NHL. I like Ryan Strome a lot and it is great to see his career trending upwards after every wrote him off there for awhile. He's a hell of a player with a lot of grit, which is something you look for in a leader and he's a guy who doesn't mind standing up for his teammates. PREDCTION FOR CAPTAIN: Chris Kreider I'm not a Kreider guy, never have been. He's paid his dues, he's one of the only guys still left from the teams of the past. It's his time to wear the C for the blue shirts
