Ok.....for the second time since 2018 the Buffalo Sabres were bad enough to win the #1 pick in the NHL draft. Let's be honest the Sabres could go any route with this pick because well.....they stink. It's a pretty shallow draft prospect pool in many peoples opinions but in no way does that mean any kid they take at #1 won't be ab absolute stud for the Sabres, at least until the get frustrated with playing for the Pegula's and request a trade. So let's take a look at some of the Sabres options with this pick.
- Owen Power (6'6 213lbs) Defenseman, Michigan University (NCAA) Power is a big kid and has the ability to be a pretty good top pairing d-man in the NHL. In 26 games at Michigan, Power had 3 goals and 13 assists. -Luke Hughes (6'2 180lbs) Defenseman USA Development Program YUPPPPP another Hughes brother, their dad must have some kind of super sperm. Luke.....as you guessed it is the brother of former top picks Jack(#1 overall) of the New Jersey Devils and Quinn(#7 overall) of the Vancouver Canucks. Luke is a really good skater and has a pretty smart defensive game. Luke lacerated a tendon in March of 2021 but hope to come back and started to skate again in May. Luke is currently committed to Michigan. - Dylan Guenther (6'1 172lbs) Right Wing, Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL) Geunther is fast as hell and is a super elite goal scorer. He's 18 years old and in 24 games he has 12 goals and 12 assists. He was apart of team Canada in the U-18 tournament. - William Eklund (5'10 176lbs) Left Wing, Djurgarden (SWE) This kid as elite speed and amazing puck handles. In the Swedish Hockey league he had 11 goals and 12 assists in just 23 games. The 18yr old is an exciting player and plays on the highest level of Swedish hockey and his ceiling is very high. -Kent Johnson (6'1 167lbs) Center, Michigan University (NCAA) Jesus, Michigan just has a ton of talent on their team, still can't win. He had 27 points in just 23 games with Michigan this past season. Johnson primarily played left wing this past season but will no doubt be a center at the next level. The kid has an NHL level snap shot and his creativity with the puck is just incredible. My prediction.....and with the first pick.....in the 2021 NHL entry draft.....The Buffalo Sabres select..... Owen Power, Defenseman University of Michigan
