Was I right or was I right? Not even a month after Laine’s trade to Columbus and Torts benched him for disrespectful conduct to an assistant coach. Laine has a gift of God but he cannot control his attitude off the ice. Today's young stars (not all of them) act like an only child in the toy aisle at Walmart. This shortened season isn’t the time to be a diva. Get your points, get a contract and survive. That’s the 2021 season. Imagine if Wayne Gretzky or Jarri Kurri got into a pissing match with their assistant coach. I’m sure those 80s coaches would not have hesitated to bench them with the other weapons on that team. Laine is on his second team, and in Winnipeg the drama was from the second season on. He is a good goal scorer who just cannot keep his emotions in check and in the NHL that is a must. Now yes, Laine did apologize and say it is going to stay in the locker room, but the issue isn’t if he apologized or not, it's that it happened in the first place. If he wants to sign a big deal somewhere he needs to get his shit together and just play hockey. Now to Tony DeAngelo, he has proven time and time again that he is a piece of shit. His draft year he was a top 5 talent falling to a late first round pick due to multiple attitude issues. His time in Tampa was spent with him feeling like he deserved more than he earned, multiple locker room outbursts and even pissing off Steve Yzerman now ruining his chances with Tampa and Detroit. After Tampa he goes to Arizona (then Phoenix) Coyotes. There it was a copy and paste Attitude problem. He then went to the Rangers, now the third team on his entry level contract and he was improving. But his politics got in the way of his work. He started a podcast and focused on that a lot, maybe too much. Then his game slipped causing him to be a healthy scratch. Once scratched, his attitude got worse. After being placed back in the lineup with the Rangers, a miscommunication with his goalie causes an OT goal. He then proceeded to attack his goalie and cause more locker room issues. His waiving by the Rangers was expected and swift. If his attitude does not change he will find himself without a job. And if the Rangers want to get rid of him they will have to eat a good portion of his salary and possibly give up a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick. These young stars have a lot to learn about being professionals or the game will continue to evolve without them. There will always be skilled players to put the puck in the net and teams will always pick the player with the better attitude. The moral of the story: don’t be a piece of shit.
