![]() Kamaru Usman finished Gilbert Burns to retain his welterweight title. Burns knocked Usman down early in round one but after that it was all Usman. Kamaru was so clinical with his jab on Burns it was just a mesmerizing performance. Kamaru landed a vicious jab that knocked Burns down in round three then finished him with ground strikes. I’ll be honest i used to never be the biggest Usman fan and i bought into the talk that he was a boring fight, but fuck not anymore. It may be too early but we may be looking at the greatest welterweight to ever step into the octagon. Usman is on a 16 fight win streak now including 3 title defenses over Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal and now Gilbert Burns. I’m being completely serious right now, i’m not sure if there is anyone that can beat this guy right now Co-main event we saw Macyee Barber return to the octagon after a year away from the cage due to an ACL injury to take on Alexa Grasso. Grasso was so clean and crisp with her boxing she overwhelmed and dominated Barber on the feet for the first two rounds and Barber didn’t really seem to have an answer. Barber just seemed to be trying to land that “one punch” but just couldn’t connect with one. Grasso won a unanimous decision, it was just her second fight at flyweight but the way she moves and boxes….Grasso could be a real contender at 125. Kelvin Gastelum won a unanimous decision victory over Ian Heinisch. Great to see Kelvin get back into the win column after losing three straight. This was his first win since 2018, Gastelum went back to tradition and just dominated with his wrestling. He took Heinisch down six times in the fight which is the most takedowns he’s had in a fight since winning the ultimate fighter finale against Uriah Hall in 2013. For me the real winner of the night was Julian Marquez. Marquez was clearly down two rounds to none against Maki Pitolo and needed a finish in the third, well he got the finish via anaconda choke. Marquez dug deep and went for broke in the third, emptying the gas tank and knocking Pitolo down and finishing him with the choke. In his post fight interview Marquez didn’t call out a fight but called out Miley Cyrus to be his valentine. The next day he got a response in the form of a tweet where Cyrus said “Shave an MC into your chest hair and I am YOURS….Happy VDAY and Congrats my LOVE!”. Dude returns to the octagon after almost three years away because of a terrible injury, gets the win, gets Miley Cyrus…...big moves. OTHER NOTABLES: Belal Muhammad gets his 4th win in a row and 9th out of 10, he weaponized his pace and boxing. He deserves a top 6-10 guy for his next fight. Ricky Simon looked incredible in his win over Brian Kelleher, another guy who completely used his pace and skill to beat Kelleher. Could be a top contender in the division Anthony Hernandez pulls off the impossible to submit Radolfo Viera, Hernadez was at 30-1 to submit Viera and the crazy fuck did it. Veria gassed out trying to get the submission finish in round one and Hernandez took advantage on the feet then finished on the ground.
